The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Santa Ana at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Salvadorenos 94-88. Salvadorenos made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Salvadorenos outrebounded Santa Ana 50-35 including 36 on the defensive glass. Salvadorenos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Power forward Brayan Garcia (194-1998) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds. Emanuel Rodriguez contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. American Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) replied with 25 points and 9 assists for Santa Ana. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Salvadorenos is looking forward to face A.Lobos in the next round where they are favorite. Santa Ana will have a break next round.
Another interesting game for A.Lobos which played in Izalco against Brujos. A.Lobos had an easy win 87-76. Guatemalan point guard David Vasquez (-1992, college: Umpqua CC) scored 38 points (!!!) and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Sean Scott chipped in 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks during the contest. Center Teodoro Romero (202-1985) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks. Brujos' coach Anibal Mendez rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. A.Lobos will play against Salvadorenos in San Salvador in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Brujos will have a break next round.
The game in Usultan was also quite interesting. Metapan played at the court of Santiagueno. Metapan defeated Santiagueno 83-72 on Sunday. Yoel Cubillas notched a double-double by scoring 29 points and 16 rebounds to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 19 points and 20 rebounds by Freddy Asprilla did not help to save the game for Santiagueno. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
In the last two games of round 2 winless Santiagueno lost to undefeated San Salvador on the road 64-75. Cojute won against Fantasmas on its own court 76-67.
